PSR’s Community Chapel is held at 11:10 am most Tuesdays during the school year in person in the Bade Museum on the PSR campus and via Zoom. It is an opportunity for the entire PSR community to come together for spiritual and theological nourishment.

Rev. Barbara J. Essex, preaching
Rev. Barbara J. Essex is a nationally recognized Christian religious leader, speaker, facilitator, and author who focuses on ecumenical ministry efforts for denominations, community organizations, congregations, colleges and seminaries in areas of clergy and vocational training and development, leadership support, cultural issues, social justice, biblical studies, and women’s religious initiatives.
She has published 15+ books and articles reaching out to diverse audiences who respond with appreciative delight and acceptance. She uses collaborative and appreciative inquiry tools to bring appropriate solutions to parishes, seminaries, higher education, and denominational settings.
She served as the Minister of Community Life here at PSR beginning in 1999, and beyond her full-time service, she has continued her connection to the school as Adjunct Faculty for our Theological Education for Leadership (formerly the Certificate of Ministry Studies) Program. She is the instructor for Introduction to Preaching-“I’m Gonna Preach–Finding Voice in Church and the World” and Church Administration and Leadership-“Called to Lead.”
A dynamic preacher, Rev. Essex most recently preached the message for the installation service of PSR Alum, Rev. Adriene Thorne (MDiv ’08), the newest and first African-American woman Senior Pastor of the historic Riverside Church NYC.
