International students are a vital part of PSR’s dynamic student body
On our campus at the top of Berkeley’s ‘Holy Hill’ and in the San Francisco Bay Area at large, you’ll have the chance to meet people from all around the world. We know that coming to study in a new cultural and social context, often in a second language, requires courage.
PSR is committed to providing information, advising services and supportive programming to the international community.
Application Requirements for International Students
1. English Proficiency
International students who speak English as a second language are required to submit proof of English proficiency as part of their application for admission.
PSR accepts the following to meet this requirement:
- TOEFL – Score of 80 or higher
- IELTS – Score of 6.5 or higher
- Duolingo English Test – Score of 110 or higher
2. Visa Process
International students intending to study in the United States must obtain an F-1 Visa. To obtain this Visa, students must:
- Complete and submit the “International Student Completion Form” as part of the application for admission. This will allow you to receive an I-20. For this form, you will need:
- A photocopy/scan of the ID page of their passport
- Bank statements from the last three months
- If applicable, a letter from any sponsor indicating the amount of support
- Note: To obtain an I-20, a student must document sufficient financial resources ($20,367 US in addition to tuition) to support study at PSR.
- After obtaining an I-20, the student is responsible for scheduling a Visa appointment with the US embassy in their home country.
3. Financial Aid
International students can apply for financial aid through the “International Student Completion Form” as part of the main application for admission.
4. Campus Housing
- Students who want to apply for campus housing should let the admissions office know as soon as possible.
- The priority deadline for housing for each fall semester is April 1. After April 1, housing is offered on a first-come, first-served basis to students from the Berkeley area.
