Put Your Love for PSR Into Action

One of the best ways for our alums to stay connected and engaged with PSR is by serving on the Alumnx Council.

Application Process

To apply please send the following to alumnx@psr.edu by Thursday, November 15.

  1. Your name, email, phone number, city and state, PSR class/year, and PSR degree or certificate program
  2. 400-words-or-less bio that addresses the following:
    • Your current and past relevant ministry or other work
    • Why you would like to serve on the Alumnx Council
    • How you reflect the diversity of the PSR alumnx community
    • Your commitment to and experience with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  3. A headshot

What is the Alumnx Council

The Alumnx Council is an elected body of alums who serve as liaisons between the school, the council, and the entire Alumnx Association (which includes all graduates and recipients of honorary degrees from PSR). The Association conducts business through the Alumnx Council.

What does the Alumnx Council do on behalf of the Alumnx Association?

  • Provides for the development and maintenance of connections among the members of the Association, and between those members and the school
  • Provides PSR-related resources and services to the members of the Association
  • Guides decisions affecting alumnx and provide feedback to PSR
  • Acts as a network of support to keep all alums in touch with each other and PSR
  • Advocates for the school in congregations and denominational gatherings
  • Promotes PSR events happening in your region
  • Supports the Annual Fund by working with the school to seek financial support from members of the Association
  • Assists in recruitment of students by encouraging persons to enroll in degree and non-degree programs of PSR

What is the expected commitment for Council members?

  • Attend the annual Alumnx Association Gathering Meeting.
  • Most of the work of the Council occurs during the council meetings. Council members are occasionally asked to assist with events and projects as needed. Council Officers (elected by the council) may have additional responsibilities.
  • Council members serve a term of 3 years with the possibility of being reelected for a second term.

Who elects the Alumnx Council?

Alumnx Council members solicit applications from the members of the Alumnx Association, which includes all graduates and recipients of honorary degrees from PSR. The Alumnx Council will review the applications and select finalists. A list of final candidates will be presented to the Alumnx Association members who will vote for their top candidate(s). Every effort will be made to provide a list of candidates that represent the diversity of our PSR and Alumnx community.

How many Council members are there and how many seats are available?

According to our Bylaws, the Council consists of twelve (12) members. All efforts should be made to ensure that the Council reflects the diversity of our Alumnx community in all ways (ethnicity, gender identity, sexualities, region, religious affiliation, degree type, and years since graduating).

We are seeking new members to fill vacancies beginning in January.

Election Process

The Alumnx Council will select and present the finalists to the Alumnx Association for voting. Voting will occur online in December. Results will be announced in January and newly elected council members will begin their terms in March.

Thank you for prayerfully considering this opportunity and for all the ways you embody the values of PSR and nurture our vital network of transformative leaders.

If you know someone who you think should apply, please encourage them to do so!

A message from a past Alumnx Council President, Rev. Loey Powell

“Serving on the Alumnx Council has been an excellent way for me to reconnect with the PSR community.  In a time when seminaries are challenged in multiple ways, PSR is moving forward creatively and making a difference in the lives of its students, faculty, staff, alums and diverse faith groups. Please consider being a part of this vital way to be a critical voice for PSR. Thank you!”

— Loey Powell, M.Div. Class of 1977
