I am a Black, male, same-gender-loving, ordained Baptist minister committed to encouraging, educating, and empowering all people to become all that God created them to be. Ordained in 1980, I have served in campus ministries at the Claremont Colleges and UNC–Chapel Hill, as well as in urban ministries in Baltimore, Hartford, and New York.
Professionally, I have worked as a journalist, human resources specialist, sales, marketing, and development executive in both for-profit and nonprofit organizations, and talent manager for classic Motown performers. My education includes a BA in English from Pomona College; graduate study in English at UNC–Chapel Hill; a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary; and a Doctor of Ministry from Pacific School of Religion.
In my local faith community, I have served for more than 30 years as head of Christian Education and Administration at Memorial Baptist Church in Harlem. I have also held various positions with the United Missionary Baptist Association, a consortium of churches in the greater New York City area, and served as treasurer of the Baptist Ministers Conference of New York and Vicinity. In these organizations, I share my publishing, marketing, editorial, and communications expertise; advocate for people who are often excluded from important discussions; and ask the “second question” that challenges the status quo.
I love PSR. As a Doctor of Ministry student, I regularly participated in chapel—as an attendee, preacher, and service coordinator—as well as in proms, Alumni Weekend, and CLGS events, including the Souls a’ Fire conference. I was a member of the Community Life Council, presented at orientation sessions, represented PSR at the Q and TFAM conferences, and served as a teaching assistant for Dr. Ruiz’s Queer Theology course. I am proud to have received the Marcella Althaus-Reid Award and the Koinonia Community Building Award.
