Jeremiah Chan is Head of Patents, Licensing and Open Source at Meta. He and his team are responsible for Meta’s worldwide patent portfolio, intellectual property transactions, and open source software, as well as industry-wide efforts to promote greater inclusion in innovation and the IP profession. Jeremiah and his team have launched several industry-wide DEI initiatives, including the Diversity in Innovation Pledge, ADAPT.legal, and the Patent Pipeline Program.
Prior to joining Meta, Jeremiah led an international team at Google that was focused on patent portfolio strategy, operations and data science; and before Google, Jeremiah served as Head of IP for JDSU. Jeremiah started his career in private practice with the law firm of Fish & Neave, where he specialized in litigation, opinion work, and client counseling. He graduated from UC Berkeley with highest honors and received his JD from Cornell Law School.
Jeremiah serves on the advisory boards for the Institute for Intellectual Property and Social Justice, and the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession. He is also a member of the Educate Committee for the Intellectual Property Owners Association. Jeremiah previously served on the USPTO’s Patent Public Advisory Committee, and as chairman of the board for Freedom Insight, an organization that combats human trafficking.
Jeremiah is married to Dr. Christine Liu Chan, DVM, and they have 3 children (Eli, Ella and Ezra).
