This course offers a brief introduction and overview of “the other” in Christian history. In this class we will explore some of the ways in which understandings of Christian identity were – and remain – built upon and shaped by a deep and consistent practice of “otherizing.” Two case studies will be considered: the depiction of Jewish people in The Gospel of John, and the persecution of various religious, ethnic, racial, and sexual minorities. 

 

COURSE DATES

November 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 2024, with zoom courses on November 2nd and 16th.

Course times are: 9am – 12noon HST/ 11am – 2pm PST/ 2pm-5pm EST
