Last semester, AAPIRT Coordinator Maij Vu Mai (they/he) offered an intimate storytelling workshop where they shared personal archival research of their own vulnerable connections and learnings with Queer AAPI Elemental Magic through their father’s legacy of mystic tending to bonsai trees, koi fishponds, canaries, and his own children.

After months of embodied synthetization and artistic world-making in correspondence with these personal archives and memories, Maij will offer an online public reading and showcase of the completed zine Queer AAPI Elemental Magic. An intimate Q&A with the contents of the zine and its creator will follow afterward.

This third edition of the zine will be released in late April/early May in honor of Asian/American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

Maij Mai (they/he/sib/homie/fam), Coordinator of the CLGS Asian American/Pacific Islander Roundtable, is a BlackVietnameseBipolarTransNonbinaryQueer currently existing in – and with – beloved community in Baltimore, Maryland. Maij’s formal education and training consist of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, as well as a Master of Divinity degree from Wake Forest University.

A creative visionary, organizer, and liberation companion from the Southern United States, their soul work centers the bodies, voices, and lived experiences of oppressed peoples striving to transform their imaginations and worlds.
