Join the CLGS Latinx Roundtable | Fe, Familia, Igualdad in a conversation with staff members of Cristosal about their work advancing LGBT+ human rights in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador – known as the Northern Triangle of Central America.
About Cristosal
Cristosal, in its work to advance human rights in Central America through rights-based research, learning, and programming, supports victims of violence by providing protection when they need it most, repair the effects of human rights violations through strategic court cases, and work with municipalities to build safer, more democratic communities.
Crimes against transgender, gender-expansive and gay and lesbian people regularly go un-investigated and un-prosecuted in the Northern Triangle of Central America. Fortunately, regional legal systems there allow a human rights organization such as Cristosal to take on the role of prosecutor on behalf of victims and survivors who choose to pursue justice. Cristosal’s TransLives Project is staffed by a gender-diverse transnational team that stands with trans, non-binary and LGBT+ individuals and communities in the Northern Triangle in the face of wave after wave targeted violence and of brutal killings.
Cristosal’s LGBT+ Project aims to:
- Partner with LGBTIQ+ community organizations to identify and accompany victims of targeted violence;
- Employ cutting-edge forensic techniques to gather evidence;
- Provide legal representation for victims and survivors to seek justice;
- Amplify the voices of trans people through creative communications on social and traditional media platforms; and
- Build a gender diverse pipeline of human rights professionals in the Northern Triangle of Central America
