This CLGS Latinx Roundtable Event will explore the concept of familia through a queer Latinx lens. Our panelists will reflect on the many ways “familia” is constructed and deployed in Latinx cultures and will apply a queer reading of familial relationality (including biological families and “chosen” families) to better understand, celebrate, and expand the scope of family in our contemporary diverse society. Such a project has significant implication for how we welcome all persons, especially queer POC, into relationship.

Voting is, therefore, not only our civic duty, but also a sacred act of love on behalf of the most vulnerable. As Christians, civic engagement is how we live out the commandment to love our neighbor (Mark 12:30-31), and “speak up” for those in need (Proverbs 31:8-9).
