Remembering PSR Student, Luke Vakaliwaliwa

Dear PSR Community:

It is with a heavy heart that I share the difficult news that our brother, PSR student Luke Vakaliwaliwa, passed away Saturday morning. He was such a joyful and insightful man, and every time I close my eyes, I see his radiant smile and prayerful presence in our weekly chapel. May he rest in peace.

Luke was a beloved MDiv student here at PSR.  On behalf of the board of trustees, the faculty, staff, students and our whole PSR community, I extend our deepest condolences to his family, his church community at First United Methodist Church in San Rafael, and all of you who are his classmates, especially our close-knit community of Fijian and Pacific Islander students. I am grateful to his pastor, Tevita Koroi who is pursuing his DMin at PSR, for his partnership as we seek ways to be of support to his family.

Condolence Gatherings will commence on Wednesday, January 15 from 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM and will continue Thursday and Friday at those same times at First United Methodist Church, located at 9 Ross Valley Drive, San Rafael, CA 94901. Groups, organizations, ministries, and churches may come during these times and should notify the church steward, Mr. Apisai Tokalautawa by phone regarding the date and time of their arrival at 415-798-6739.

A bilingual memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18 at 11:00 AM at San Rafael, First United Methodist Church. I invite you to join me at that service if you are available. Afterward, Luke will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 25 in Fiji.

I know you join me in prayer as we give thanks for Luke and commend him to the care of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  We grieve as those who believe, “For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died” (1 Thessalonians 4:14).

Rest in peace, brother Luke, good and faithful servant.

Peace,

David
