PSR Welcomes New Faculty

Dear PSR Community,

I am delighted to announce the appointments of Dr. Joshua S. Bartholomew and Dr. Corwin Malcolm Davis to the PSR faculty, beginning July 1, 2025. Following a rigorous and community-engaged search process, both individuals were selected for their exceptional academic credentials, deep ministerial commitments, and alignment with PSR’s mission to reimagine theological education in ways that are liberative, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of historically marginalized communities.

Dr. Joshua S. Bartholomew will serve as Assistant Professor of Theology, Race and Social Justice. Born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Roxbury, Boston, Dr. Bartholomew earned his Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City and completed his Ph.D. in the joint doctoral

program at the University of Denver and Iliff School of Theology. Licensed to preach in both the National and American Baptist Church traditions, he has served in historic congregations including Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem and Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury, MA.

Dr. Bartholomew’s scholarship explores the intersections of Black spirituality, liberation theology, and social movements. He is the author of Black Theology and The Black Panthers, and his work calls theological education into deeper engagement with the lived experiences and prophetic traditions of Black communities. Reflecting on his new role, he shared:

“I am deeply honored to join the vibrant PSR community, where faith and justice intersect in meaningful and transformative ways. I look forward to engaging with students, colleagues, and community partners in collaborative scholarship that speaks to the urgency of our times.”

Outside the classroom, Dr. Bartholomew enjoys traveling with his wife, Courtney, exploring food festivals, and engaging with music and visual culture.

Dr. Corwin Malcolm Davis will serve as Assistant Professor of Africana Religions, Theologies, and Culture. He was awarded the George W. Woodruff Fellowship, the Centennial Scholars Fellowship, and fellowships from Sacred Writes, the Louisville Institute, and the Forum for Theological Exploration.

Dr. Davis’s research brings together African Diasporic religiosities, psychologies of religion, feminist and queer theories, and cultural studies. He is co-editor of the forthcoming volume At This Time: Dialogues in Theological Education (Eerdmans) and has published articles in Religions, Theology and Sexuality, and Political Theology. He has held leadership roles as Director of the Center for Academic Success at Candler School of Theology and Associate Director of the national “Theological Education Between the Times” project.

Ordained as an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Dr. Davis has served congregations in Tennessee and New York and currently supports the AME Publishing House as a consultant and project director. Reflecting on his new role, he shared:

“It is a profound joy to join the PSR community—a place where scholarly rigor and prophetic witness come together in service of justice, compassion, and liberation. I am excited to teach, collaborate, and learn alongside colleagues and students who are deeply invested in transforming both theological education and the world.”
