In Memoriam: Rev. Roger E. Ridgway

The Pacific School of Religion community mourns the passing of Alumnx Rev. Roger E. Ridgway, who died peacefully on January 19.

Rev. Ridgway devoted his life to ministry, serving congregations with care and commitment across decades. He spent fifteen years as pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ in San Francisco, where he was later named pastor emeritus. His leadership extended beyond the local church as chair of the San Francisco Interfaith Council from 1999 to 2001. Earlier in his vocation, he served as a campus minister at the University of Toledo and pastored congregations in multiple settings.

He was laid to rest at White Eagle Memorial Preserve in Washington, alongside his wife, Jonnie.

Rev. Ridgway is survived by his sons, Roderic and Matthew; his sister, Iris Ridgway; his grandchildren Dashiell, Taylor, Cullen, Angus, and Riley; and a wide circle of extended family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 PM on April 19 at St. John’s UCC, 501 Laguna Honda Blvd., San Francisco. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. All who knew Rev. Ridgway are warmly invited to attend.
