Alumnx Rev. Dr. Chynaah Maryoung-Cooke Named Inaugural Writing Fellow

Celebrating excellence in scholarship, leadership, and vocational formation at Pacific School of Religion

Pacific School of Religion (PSR) is proud to celebrate the scholarly achievements of Rev. Dr. Chynaah Maryoung-Cooke, DMin ’25, whose recent national recognitions reflect both her visionary leadership and the formative impact of PSR’s academic and mentoring community.

Rev. Dr. Maryoung-Cooke has been named an Inaugural Writing Fellow with theReligious Education Association (REA), selected as a new scholar for its prestigious Horizons Book Series, sponsored by the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion. As part of this fellowship, she is working within a mentored cohort, including former PSR faculty, to develop a book-length manuscript for publication. Completion of the manuscript is anticipated in March 2026.

In addition, the American Theological Library Association (ATLA) has approved Rev. Dr. Maryoung-Cooke’s proposal for inclusion in its 7th volume on Collaboration in Theological Settings, with publication work continuing through June 2026.

Reflecting on her journey, Rev. Dr. Maryoung-Cooke expressed deep gratitude for the mentorship and formation she received at PSR, naming the influence of faculty leaders who helped shape her as both a transformational leader and a scholar grounded in imagination, possibility, and justice. She credits PSR’s ministry of presence and academic excellence with giving her the footing to trust her voice and pursue the work she long knew was within her.

PSR celebrates Rev. Dr. Maryoung-Cooke’s achievements with gratitude and pride, rejoicing in the ways her scholarship continues to embody PSR’s mission of truth, justice, and transformative theological education.
