Matthew Charlton, PhD, in addition to teaching United Methodist Studies at PSR, teaches undergraduate courses in religion at Belmont University in Nashville, TN and serves as the executive director of the Oxford Institute of Methodist Theological Studies Foundation. An ordained clergyperson in the United Methodist Church, he served both in local churches and as an executive supporting higher education-related programs around the world. He holds a PhD in theological studies from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, and an M.Div and MAR from Vanderbilt University. Recently, he completed a master’s degree in strategic communication and leadership at Belmont University, with a thesis focused on trust and leadership in organizations. Previously, he was a research fellow at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, and a research associate at Wesley House in Cambridge.
