Wouldn't Take Nothin' For My Journey Now
This six-week workshop series exploring the music of the African Diaspora will be led by Linda Tillery and Ann Jefferson, PSR's CMS program coordinator. The class begins March 18 at 7:00-9:30pm and will meet every following Wednesday in March and April in PSR's Mudd Building Room 103. Cost is $300, which can be made in two installments to Tuizer Music, P.O. Box 11195, Oakland, CA 94611.
African chants, field hollers, moans, spirituals, ring shouts, Afro-Caribbean traditional songs, and Gullah Culture will be among the song styles and topics of focus. Class sessions will include lots of singing, plus the use of videos and recordings to stimulate discussion. Articles and reflections that are rooted in the socio-historical experiences of African-Americans and Africans throughout the Diaspora, will be incorporated in a course reader.
