Episcopal Bishop Mary Glasspool Speaking at Solemn Evensong Service
You are invited to a rare opportunity to hear Episcopal Bishop Mary Glasspool (suffragan of the Diocese of Los Angeles) this Wednesday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m. in the PSR Chapel. This is an historic visit; Bishop Glasspool is being hosted by New Spirit Community Church (www.newspiritchurch.org), and is here to receive a Leading Voices Award from the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies www.clgs.org for her courage and integrity as the first openly lesbian bishop to serve in the Episcopal Church. We will also honor PSR Lecturer in Theology Dr. Jay Johnson for his role in the historic revision of the liturgies of the Episcopal Church to provide a blessing for same-sex couples.
In place of the usual Wednesday night Taize format, the service will be Solemn Evensong for the the Feast of Saint Michael and All Angels. This service is offered annually as a collaboration between New Spirit and CLGS, and will provide an opportunity for new and returning students to receive a blessing as the autumn turn gets underway in earnest. The musical setting is Holden Evening Prayer , and recent graduate Stacy Imes will be our guest cantor. Note: in respect to our Anglican guests we are trying to figure out how to use incense in this service and also be thoughtful about those who may be allergic to it.
PSR Chapel is located at 1798 Scenic Ave., Berkeley, CA.
