Beyond Bashing: A Faith Response to End Anti-LGBT Violence Workshop
Hate crimes based on sexual orientation account for 20% of all hate crimes reported to the FBI in recent years and violence against the transgender community continues at an appalling rate as well. We know that anti-gay religious voices contribute to creating a climate that allows these terrifying crimes to continue at high rates. Many faith leaders, however, are firm in our commitment that all people deserve to live in safety and freedom and that violence is never the appropriate response to our differences.
Join us on Saturday, February 9 as we work together to end violence against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities. The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry (CLGS) is partnering with the Community Relations Service of the US Department of Justice to sponsor a workshop designed to give people of faith practical tools and spiritual inspiration to take action against violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity. We will hear from Melinda Haag, United States Attorney for the CA Northern District, U.S. Department of Justice; Rev. Lynice Pinkard; Rev. Kamal Hassan; and other members of the law enforcement and faith communities.
Registration is just $10; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Continuing education credits (CEUs) are available from Pacific School of Religion for clergy, therapists and others at no additional charge.
All are welcome—clergy and laity, people of all faiths. We are also seeking small group facilitators for the program, who will participate in a training led by the Department of Justice on Friday, Feb. 1; please email email@example.com if you are interested in applying to be a facilitator.
