Dong Soo Lee
Born in Incheon, South Korea, Dong Soo Lee (MDiv 2008) earned a degree in electrical engineering from Suwon University, but realized he didn't want that as a career. After finding God's calling to ministry, he decided he wanted to be challenged by the chance to study and perhaps preach in the United States.
When he arrived at PSR, he says, "I realized that this school is really trying to be inclusive to ethnic minorities—that was one thing I really liked. My goal is to become an ordained minister in a local church setting, preferably in the United States. I really want to be inclusive, as a minister; but, at the same time, I want to challenge others, based on my own personal history. I would like to challenge the gap between 'majority' and 'minority,' as it exists in many different areas of life—in terms of ethnicity, sexual orientation, culturally and socially and politically, and so on. That's my goal in my ministry."
Dong Soo, who worked with fabric and other materials to create sacred space settings in the PSR chapel, says: "If I could put into one sentence what was of most benefit to me as a student at PSR, I would say: I was challenged—by a different language, a different culture, by different perspectives, as well as academically, in my classes. Perhaps the most important thing is that my voice here was validated."
