At the spring meeting of PSR’s Board of Trustees, three faculty members were advanced to the rank of full professor: Andrea Bieler, Joseph Driskill, and Tat-siong Benny Liew.

Andrea Bieler, appointed professor of Christian worship, was educated in Germany (PhD, University of Kassel, 1993) and is an ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover, Germany. Her most recent books are Gottesdienst interkulturell (Worship in intercultural perspective) (2008) and The Eucharist: Bodies, Bread, and Resurrection (2007), co-written with Luise Schottroff, which was inspired by the class “Eucharist as Holy Eating” that she co-taught with Luise Schottroff at PSR.

Joseph Driskill, appointed professor of spirituality, was educated at Culver-Stockton College, Vanderbilt University Divinity School, and the Graduate Theological Union (PhD, 1996). He is also Ronald D. Soucey Lecturer and dean of the Disciples Seminary Foundation, Berkeley campus. His books include Spiritually Informed Pastoral Care (2002) and Ethics and Spiritual Care: A Guide for Pastors, Chaplains, and Spiritual Directors (2000), co-written with PSR Professor Emerita Karen Lebacqz.

Tat-siong Benny Liew, appointed professor of New Testament, was educated at Olivet Nazarene University and Vanderbilt University (PhD 1997). His most recent book, What Is Asian American Biblical Hermeneutics? Reading the New Testament (2008), is the first single-authored book on Asian American biblical interpretation. He also serves on several international editorial boards, and is currently the book review editor of the journal Biblical Interpretation.
