Sycamore Church responds to earthquake and tsunami in Japan

March 11, 2011

PSR Board Chair Sharon MacArthur, senior minister at Sycamore Congregational United Church of Christ, shares this message with the PSR community about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Dear Ones,

If you haven’t heard already, there has been a massive earthquake off the shores of Japan and a devastating tsunami which has hit the northeast coast of Japan. There has been loss of life, homes and property. Our prayers are with all those whose lives have been touched by today’s disaster. There are those in our community with family and friends in these areas–please hold them in prayer also. If you or anyone you know need(s) a place to be in community to share, to meditate, to pray silently or with a pastor, please come to Sycamore Congregational United Church of Christ (1111 Navellier Street in El Cerrito, tel. 510/525-0727). Our doors will be open until 10 pm this evening. Pastor Sharon will be present until 7:30 pm; Pastor Sahara until 10 pm.

Blessings,
Pastor Sahara & Pastor Sharon

P.S. We will be collecting a special offering for the Japani Disaster Relief–to be distributed through UCC’s Wider Church Ministries. You may send a check payable to Sycamore–please note on the memo line--Japan earthquake/tsunami relief.

P.P.S. We have just received word that Jeffrey Mensendiek and his family in Sendai are ok.
