PSR student receives fellowship from Beatitudes Society
Pacific School of Religion student Dionne Carter has been awarded a Summer Fellowship by The Beatitudes Society. Dionne will be serving at Children's Defense Fund in Oakland, CA. Dionne is part of the 2009 class of 20 Summer Fellows who will serve as interns at social change organizations in Washington DC, the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago, IL. Summer Fellows will serve at selected agencies from June 8 to August 3, 2009, and will participate in weekly theological reflection sessions facilitated by a local mentor following a curriculum exploring the links between social change advocacy and progressive Christianity. All twenty Fellows will gather at the end of the summer for a retreat at the Fetzer Institute. The students will be awarded a cash stipend by The Beatitudes Society to help cover summer living expenses.
The Beatitudes Society develops and sustains emerging Christian leaders at seminaries and divinity schools who will advocate for justice, compassion, and peace; counter the Christian Right with a clear message of the welcoming and generous love of Jesus as expressed in the Beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount; and articulate a Christianity that dares to speak and act for our fragile planet and our most vulnerable citizens.
