PSR Community takes part in march for Marriage Equality in San Francisco

March 27, 2013

On Monday, March 25, PSR alums, staff, and current students joined thousands who marched for marriage equality in San Francisco the night before the U.S. Supreme Court was to hear opening arguments on overturning California's Prop. 8 and the U.S. Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) cases. “March 4 Equality” ended with a rally on the steps of San Francisco’s City Hall with numerous speakers, including PSR former staff and alum Rev. Karen Oliveto (MDiv 1983), alum Rev. Victor Floyd (MDiv 2009) and current CLGS staff member and alum Rev. Roland Stringfellow (MDiv 2006).

Rev. Stringfellow was quoted in an article by South Florida Gay News:

There were a few speakers at the vigil, none more powerful than Rev. Roland Stringfellow. Stringfellow, who is African American, represented the Pacific School of Religion.

“People often assume that clergy and people of color are against marriage equality,” he said. “I represent over 250 congregations who welcome LGBT people and their families. Let this be a time of reconciliation.”  (Read full article)
