PSR Alum Named Director of Faith Partnerships & Mobilization for the Human Rights Campaign

May 24, 2013

Rev. MacArthur Flournoy (MDiv '11) has been named the Director of Faith Partnerships & Mobilization for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Below is the announcement from Sharon Groves, PhD, Director, Religion and Faith Program at HRC.

I am delighted to announce Rev. MacArthur Flournoy’s new position as HRC’s Director for Faith Partnership and Mobilization. MacArthur has shown himself to be an exceptional spokesperson for LGBT equality, a skilled behind-the scenes negotiator with faith leaders not traditionally with us, and a gentle, yet deeply effective, facilitator. I am regularly exposed to charismatic ministers who move people easily by their words. What sets MacArthur apart from others is that he doesn't simply leave audiences inspired by his message but he helps them to see their own power to transform their communities. Rarely is MacArthur asked to speak only once but is brought back to communities again and again.

As the faith director for the Maryland campaign and in his work with faith communities across the country, MacArthur brings a deeply relational form of organizing that inspires trust among communities of faith. In his new role he will lead our on-the-ground faith organizing work, will develop programming around our new curriculum, “Triumphs of Faith,” based on what we learned about faith organizing from the 2012 ballot campaigns, and will strengthen our relationship with our African American faith leaders.
