The VITAS - Urban CPE Program of Southern California
SACRAMENTO LOCATION
Summer Unit: June 3 – August 15, 2013
The VITAS - Urban Program offers CPE learning opportunities in a variety of settings, including VITAS Innovative Hospice Care patient and family homes, Skilled Nursing Facilities and Long Term Care homes. In the Summer unit of CPE students are guided and supported in developing the skills and inner resources to provide compassionate and competent spiritual care to patients, residents, staff, and families within the hospice context. We offer experience-based theological education for seminarians, clergy, and lay persons of diverse faith traditions, cultures, and ethnic groups. The summer unit will take place at the Sacramento campus and will work closely with the San Diego site.
The program director is John Gillman, Ph.D., certified by both the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) and the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC). ACPE Supervisor, Rabbi Susan Freeman also is in San Diego. Rev. Kate Kennedy, a Supervisory Education Student, is at the Sacramento location. Susan will work with Kate and the Sacramento students. The program is fully accredited to offer Level I, Level II, and Supervisory CPE by the ACPE. Students may earn academic credit for CPE units. The tuition for individuals for a unit of CPE is $550. For those sponsored by a seminary or institutions the tuition is $700. In addition, there is a non-refundable application fee of $35. Please make check out to "VITAS Healthcare" and write "CPE Application Fee" in the memo line. Students are reimbursed for mileage in visiting hospice patients.
