St. Paul's United Methodist Church / City Circuit

St. Paul's UMC is a small urban congregation located in downtown San Jose, just across the street from San Jose State University. We are a Reconciling congregation and our congregation also includes those who are new immigrants to the US, those with developmental disabilities and those with mental illness. We are hoping to welcome a seminarian who would like preaching experience, with the expectation to plan worship and preach on a monthly basis. Other opportunities based on the interest of the seminarian include: campus ministry, social justice outreach (we are already active in peace vigils, immigration events, transitional housing from homeless shelters, and others), covenant groups, neighborhood outreach, home visitation, arts in worship, and possibly others.

Other possibilities exist with relationships with the City Circuit churches including Spanish language worship and Bible study, door-to-door evangelism, and new church start development.

All of the churches in our Circuit are open to having the student work with them if that is where their learning covenant leads. (That includes Wesley UMC in Japantown and Santa Clara Korean UMC). Also, the churches are all going to help finance the position, so we will have at least $200 per month available.

Monthly Stipend: At least $200
Car Required?: Yes (only to commute; public transit could also work)
