Part-Time Campus Minister, UU Church of Davis
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis seeks to hire a part-time Campus Minister for the 2014-2015 academic year to serve a vibrant, engaged group of 15-20 University of California-Davis students. The Campus Minister will be supported by a Campus Ministry Committee, and will report directly to Rev. Elizabeth Banks, Senior Minister. The position will average 10 hours a week, including prep time, and will go from late August 2014 until mid-June 2015. There is a stipend of $10,500 for the year.
The Campus Minister’s main duties will include planning, coordinating, and facilitating weekly Campus Ministry meetings near the UC Davis campus. These two-hour events (6:30-8:30pm every Thursday) the cornerstone of the Campus Ministry community, include a home-cooked dinner (provided by congregants) and discussion with the group. The Campus Minister will work collaboratively with the students to choose topics throughout the year. As the leader of the group, the Campus Minister is expected to contribute theological and spiritual depth to discussions and is charged with helping students build community with one another while fostering lifelong Unitarian Universalist identity.
Early in the school year, the Campus Minister will engage in outreach and recruiting activities, including tabling at the LGBTQ Resource Center Fall Welcome, the UC Davis Activities Fair, and dorm welcome events. Additional possible activities for the Campus Minister might include facilitating informal conversations with students (“Coffee and Conversation with the Campus Clergy”), representing the UU Campus Ministry at interfaith clergy gatherings, organizing social outings, spearheading service and justice projects, creating public witness events such as the Transgender Day of Remembrance service, or helping students present a worship service to the congregation in the spring.
Seminarians will be preferred; qualified lay leaders will be considered. Candidates for the position should have the following qualities:
- Working knowledge of UU Theology, History and Polity
- Experience working with young adults and familiarity with faith development
- Excellent skills in group facilitation and leading theological reflection
- Competency in anti-racist/counter-oppressive analysis and leadership
- Good social media skills, especially Facebook
- A love of young Unitarian Universalists!
