First Congregational Church Alameda, UCC

First Congregational Church of Alameda is a vibrant and inclusive faith community filled with people from a diversity of cultural backgrounds and lifestyles. Our church is centrally located on the Island of Alameda, a city of 70,000 known for its beautiful beach and bay views, quaint Victorian homes and small-town feel.

Our worship services include the creative use of ritual, visual arts, poetry, drumming, liturgical dance, a bell and voice choir as well as a blend of both traditional and contemporary music. We have a strong commitment to finding ways to serve the social and economic needs of our community and to taking public stands on issues of social justice and inclusion. Every Sunday, we say: No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, YOU ARE WELCOME HERE. And we mean it!

We have many families with young children, a vibrant youth group and an outstanding children and youth ministry which is particularly sensitive to youth with special needs. Our minister is committed to empowering lay leaders to discover their unique gifts and to serve in an area of ministry that is meaningful and life giving. We are a very spirited and active congregation; a majority of our community members are active in some area of ministry including our numerous ministry teams, small groups, faith formation studies and our two governing bodies.

A minister-in-training at our field education site would experience the full range of parish ministry and openness by the pastor to choose specific areas to participate in based on learning goals. Our minister is a skilled, compassionate and devoted mentor who is committed to collegiality and has years of experience mentoring seminary students and those in the ordination process.
