Pacific School of Religion

Eden UCC is a 148-year-old congregation in the United Church of Christ tradition. We are an Open and Affirming congregation situated in a predominantly first-generation immigrant Mexican-American neighborhood. We have an opening for a Religious Education and Spiritual Life Coordinator, which may be approached as a Field Education placement.

Duties:

• Recruit and schedule church school teachers and childcare workers
• Select and order church school curriculum and purchase and stock church school supplies, based on input from lay leaders, teachers, and the Senior Minister
• Implement the Safe Congregation Policies and Procedures
• Create publicity for religious education and spiritual life programs for distribution through the church's internal and external media channels
• Assist the Senior Minister in coordinating adult education programs
• Organize and facilitate occasional parent-teacher gatherings
• Assist in Sunday worship as requested by the Senior Minister
• Meet weekly for supervision with the pastor
• Participate in periodic meetings of the Education, Spiritual Life, and Outreach Committee
• Participate in monthly Church Staff meetings

Ideal Qualifications:

• Certificated teacher with experience in the primary grades
• Excellent administrative and organizational skills
• Proven ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people and multiple stakeholders
• Proven ability to successfully implement Safe Congregation policies and procedures
• Intermediate (or higher) level Spanish speaker

Reports to: Senior Minister
Employment Classification: Part-time (12-15 hr./wk. job) beginning May 2013

Monthly Stipend: $1,200-1,800, depending on education, experience, and compensation history
Car Required?: Recommended, but not required
