Director, GLBT Center at North Carolina State University
The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Center, established in 2008 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, is seeking a Director.
The GLBT Center is a unit within the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, reporting to the Vice-Provost. The Center works to create, maintain, and strengthen an inclusive and safe campus environment for people of all sexualities and gender identities. The Center supports the mission of the University and student success through individual consultation and referral, awareness and education programs, student organization advisement, community outreach and advocacy, and development of expanded resources to sustain growth and eventual expansion of the GLBT Center for the campus. Working in partnership with the GLBT Center, the GLBT Center Advisory Committee are faculty, staff and students who are available to consult with and support the GLBT Center staff.
Essential Job Duties:
The Director will have a demonstrated passion for issues related to the GLBT communities and will serve as a dynamic liaison between these communities, the Center, and the University. The Director must have a strong commitment to the goals of the Center, with a firm knowledge of GLBT issues, exceptional people skills, well-developed written and verbal communication skills, and appreciation for staff and volunteers. In addition, the Director must have demonstrated ability to plan and execute programming that educates and enriches the campus community.
- Master’s degree required, preferably in Higher Ed. Administration, Counselor Education, College Counseling, or a related field; doctoral degree preferred.
- 3 – 5 years direct experience working with the GLBT community, preferably in a higher education setting.
