CAMPUS PASTOR / CHAPLAIN at THE ECUMENICAL HOUSE, an ECUMENICAL CAMPUS MINISTRY in SAN FRANCISCO

 
A coalition consisting of Presbyterian, Episcopal, United Church of Christ and United Methodist Churches is seeking a Campus Pastor to lead and grow a dynamic campus ministry in San Francisco, California.The Ecumenical Housemission is to provide a progressiveand inclusive Christian witness, using our resources to invite San Francisco campus communitiesinto an exploration of faith.
 
The Ecumenical House is a campus ministry that includes a residential component as well as active campus outreach and programming. The ministry was founded in 1961, with the residential component added in 2002. The Board of Directors is seeking a visionary, caring, hard-working individual who will enter this ministry context with a "can do" mindset. The successful candidate will enjoy a broad base of support from the Board, local congregations, and from an onsite student ministry team. 
 
This is a ½ time position
 
The successful candidate will be a credentialed clergyperson (or possibly with credentials pending) in one of the four sponsoring faith communities (Episcopal, United Methodist, Presbyterian, United Church of Christ).
 
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • A strong Christ-centered faith and a willingness and ability to share that faith with others
  • A commitment to social justice as the center of the Christian faith
  • A willingness and ability to teach, preach and work with young adults who are spiritually seeking and/or un-churched
  • An ability to work in partnerships with Board Members and student leadership teams
  • An ability to be a "self-starter," to take initiative in building program and ministry
  • A love of people and an ability to facilitate the formation of Christian community
The Campus Pastor will report to the Personnel Committee of the Board of Directors and will be charged with the following:
  1. Provide pastoral care, spiritual formation, and sacramental and non-sacramental worship and devotions for students, faculty and staff at San Francisco colleges and universities –primarily San Francisco State University. 
  2. Maintain and Guide the intentional Residential Christian Community of students.
  3. Create program ministries to serve the student body at San Francisco State University. (Students from City College, Academy of  Art, and other San Francisco Universities are also welcomed and often become members.)
  4. Facilitate communications and outreach mechanisms such as newsletter, website, and other publicity efforts.
  5. Communicate with the appropriate University and College officials.
  6. Foster relationships with area congregations and judicatory offices.
  7. Support the Board of Directors in its fiscal responsibility to the ministry.
  8. Supervise any staff.
  9. Oversee all administrative aspects of the ministry and property management
  10. Work with the Ecumenical House student president to maintain official organization status at SFSU
