American Friends Service Committee, Middle East Program

AFSC is a Quaker organization devoted to service, development, and peace programs throughout the world. Our work is based on the belief in the worth of every person, and faith in the power of love to overcome violence and injustice.

AFSC's Bay Area Middle East Program strengthens the work of organizations and groups working on the issue of Palestine by developing a local network of groups to coordinate strategies and broaden our outreach. We lobby California representatives about military aid to Israel and the Middle East. We sponsor Faces of Hope, a campaign in which Israelis and Palestinians meet, work, and resist together.

The student will work with the Middle East program on organizing and networking with campus groups in the region (Students for Justice in Palestine) and supporting them with research, tools and resources.

Preference is for a Summer trainee (starting June or so), but a strong candidate can be accepted earlier. Looking for someone familiar with Israel/Palestine history and facts on the ground, with strong writing capabilities and a strong commitment to supporting Palestinian nonviolent organizing and initiatives. The work offered is interesting and very educational, as a seminarian could learn a lot about grassroots organizing, economic activism and research for activism.
