Clare C. Barnes (BD 1965), who died March 11, used her degree in pastoral counseling at Mill Valley Community Church and at Planned Parenthood. In her later years, she took up ballroom dancing and also performed with Readers On Stage in Phoenix, AZ. Her granddaughter, Leslie Moughty, is a current MDiv student.
Stanley James Gollery (BD 1954), a United Methodist minister who served churches in Van Nuys, Covina, and Hemet, CA, and Escondido, AZ, died June 4, 2009.
Evangeline L. Hermanson (MDiv 1988) died October 10, 2009. She and her husband Robert worked with Berkeley Chaplaincy to the Homeless. She travelled throughout the United States and to Switzerland and Italy with her ministry of embodied spirituality, “Reweaving the Web,” helping elders and marginalized people find healing and reclaim their voice.
Margaret H. Hood (BD 1961) died June 7, 2008. Following graduation, she was awarded a Danforth Fellowship at Duke University. In the 1970s, she began a career as a builder of historically correct reproductions of early keyboard instruments: harpsichords, clavichords, and fortepianos.
Carl A. Smith (BD 1960) died December 6, 2008. In 1963, Carl and his wife Suzanne started a new ministry in East Palo Alto, CA, the Mid-Peninsula Christian Ministry at Community House. In 1977, Carl founded the Noe Valley Ministry Presbyterian Church, retiring in 1996. He moved to New York City, where he taught yoga and meditation to seniors and was a tour guide at Riverside Church.
