Assistant Professor of Theology

Academic Credentials:
BS, University of Puerto Rico, 1988; MTS, Drew University, 2001; PhD, Drew University, 2005
Quote:
“Teaching means for me inviting students to join me in encountering others—other students, course materials, and the legacy of Christian traditions—and to reflect on the processes necessary for those encounters to be fruitful. As we ‘learn to learn from each other,’ we open ourselves to transformation—our own and that of our communities.”
Profile:

Dr. Rivera teaches and writes across a wide range of contemporary theological studies. She engages the symbols of the Christian tradition constructively, drawing from a variety of theoretical sources, including feminist and gender studies, poststructuralist philosophies, postcolonial theories, and ethnic studies. Her publications include the co-edited anthology Postcolonial Theologies and The Touch of Transcendence: A Postcolonial Theology of God (2007), which explores the relationship between ideas about God’s otherness and models of inter-human difference.
