Traces of the Trade
While she was a student at Pacific School of Religion, Katrina Browne (MA 1997) discovered that her New England ancestors were the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history, bringing more than 10,000 Africans to the Americas in chains. She and nine fellow descendants uncovered the extent of Northern complicity in slavery, a story she tells in her film, “Traces of the Trade,” which was an official selection of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
Equality U
In the summer of 2006, third-year PSR student Kayla Bonewell was one of 33 activitsts taking part in the Soulforce Equality Ride across America. Aiming to open a dialogue about what it means to be gay and Christian, the group visited 19 Christian colleges and universities that discriminate against LGBT students. This trailer for the documentary about their trip, "Equality U," shows some of what they encountered along the way.
