Dr. Allen was an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church for fifteen years, serving as a pastor in Tennessee, Missouri and California. Dr. Allen is currently the Founder and Senior Pastor of New Revelation Community Church a non-denomination church based in Oakland, California.

Dr. Allen has taught in a number of graduate schools to help prepare persons for ministry. She was a Graduate Fellow Instructor at Vanderbilt Divinity School, (Nashville, Tennessee), an Instructor of Preaching and Worship at Saint Paul School of Theology (a United Methodist seminary in Kansas City, Missouri), and an Assistant Professor of Preaching and Worship at Lancaster Theological Seminary (a United Church of Christ seminary in Lancaster, Pennsylvania).
