Andrea Bieler

Professor of Christian Worship

Academic Credentials:
First Theological Examination, Lutheran Church of Hannover, 1989; Dr Phil, University of Kassel, 1993; Second Theological Examination, Lutheran Church of Hannover, 1995.
Quote:
“I want students to become aware of the historical roots of liturgy and its theological and anthropological meanings in order to bring Christian worship to life today. In my worship classes I deal with theological issues such as prayer, sacraments, the trinitarian pattern of worship, the theological significance of music, the liturgical meanings of time and space. Students get a sense of liturgies as a whole, and of prevailing worship patterns.”
Profile:

Dr. Bieler directs worship at PSR that is both formative for theological education and sensitive to its contextual and cross-cultural dimensions. An ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hannover, Germany, she brings experience in liturgical theology and ritual studies, feminist and intercultural perspectives, practical theology, and bibliodrama. Her writings include: The Eucharist: Bodies, Bread, and Resurrection (in cooperation with Luise Schottroff, Fortress Press 2007), and Worship in Intercultural Perspective: Encounters in the In-Between Space (in German, Kohlhammer 2007).
