Chaplaincy Skills Development

Welcome to our new page of information and resources on Chaplaincy Skills Development at Pacific School of Religion and the Graduate Theological Union.

The Offices of Field Education and Contextual Learning at PSR seek to support spiritual leaders for public contexts - government, higher education, hospitals, hospice, prisons, business, nonprofit leadership as well as congregational settings. These contexts all need a wide range of skill development.

Chaplaincy Skills Development is the first of multiple updated pages that will address a focused skill set.

Whether you are a current or a prospective student at PSR, the events, courses, resources, professional associations are offered as an invitation to learn and serve in diverse and life and community changing contexts.

New Certificate Program at SFTS: Trauma and Spiritual Care

Beginning January 2014, San Francisco Theological Seminary is offering a new certificate program in Trauma and Spiritual Care. This program will provide working professionals in both clinical and pastoral settings with the skills to incorporate spirituality into the healing counsel they provide to trauma victims.

Traumatic experiences impact people and communities in very particular and complicated ways. In addition to physical and psychological impacts, trauma can also shatter the foundations of people’s spirituality – their senses of trust and hope. This program highlights the spiritual understandings of trauma and healing, giving caregivers a more comprehensive set of skills to help trauma victims recover from their experiences.

For more information about this program, please read the FAQs and enrollment information.
