Application Checklist

The checklist below is for all programs except the GTU Common MA. Visit the Graduate Theological Union website for application instructions for this program.

All application materials, including transcripts and reference letters, must be submitted in English. Your application will not be reviewed until all required materials are received (including all necessary transcripts, test scores, and letters of reference).

  • Admissions application.
  • Non-refundable application fee of $50 payable to Pacific School of Religion.
  • Personal statement addressing questions on application.
  • Sealed, official transcripts from every academic institution attended for all classes taken whether a degree was completed or not — including colleges, universities and seminaries. We recommend that you have all transcripts sent to you in sealed envelopes so that you can mail them with your application. Please do not fax application materials to PSR.
  • Four letters of reference and completed reference forms. Only three reference letters are needed for the Certificate in Sexuality and Religion. We recommend that you have all reference letters sent to you in sealed envelopes so that you can mail them with your application. Please do not fax application materials to PSR.
  • Resume of employment and other relevant experience (required for DMin and CAPS programs; optional for MDiv, MTS, CTS, CSR and CSS programs).
  • Graduate Records Exam (GRE) scores (required for those with grade point averages below 3.0 and where there is insufficient academic information such as transcripts with only pass/fail grades).
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (required for international students). If your primary language of spoken and written communication is not English, and if your formal education has not been conducted in English, you must submit results of the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum score of 550 (on the written test) or 220 (on the computer test). PSR's institution code is 4599.
  • Mail all above application materials to the Pacific School of Religion Admissions Office.
  • Financial Aid Application (optional). Mail to GTU Financial Aid Office

All materials submitted in conjunction with applications are the property of Pacific School of Religion and are not returnable to the applicant. They may not be borrowed or sent outside of Pacific School of Religion. For your future use, please keep extra copies of all materials you send to us. Materials submitted for admissions by an applicant become part of the successful candidate's permanent file at PSR, with the exception of the letters of reference, which are destroyed once admissions decisions are made. All other application materials are kept on file for two years, after which they are purged.

Confidentiality

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 gives enrolled students access to information contained in their applications for admission. You may, however, waive your right to see your reference letters. This assures your referees complete confidentiality. This waiver is strictly voluntary and you have the opportunity to state your choice on the recommendation form. A copy of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (the Buckley Amendment) is available in the Admissions Office. The admissions process is confidential and reasons are not given for refusal to admit an applicant.
