1940s

Henry Hayden (MDiv 1944) turned 90 last year and continues to preach one Sunday a month. This past winter his watercolor landscapes were on display in an art show in Claremont, CA.

1950s

Patricia Schneider (MA 1959) was honored to have one of her poems read on “The Writer’s Almanac” by Garrison Keillor. “Overnight” was read on the radio program August 13.

1970s

Clifford “Skip” Lindeman (MDiv 1970), pastor of La Canada Congregational Church/UCC, writes a weekly commentary on the “issue of the week,” which appears in the Glendale News-Press, www.glendalenewspress.com, as well as other weekly papers in the area.

Daniel Romero (MDiv 1970), a former general secretary to the United Church Board for World Ministries, retired after 37 years in ministry. To honor his life’s work and ministry, a new UCC ministry, the Daniel F. Romero Border Ministry Center, or Centro Romero, opened in San Ysidro, CA—a few blocks from the barricade separating the US from Tijuana, Mexico. Romero has long been regarded as a leader in pluralistic ministry, global partnerships, and Latino ministry.

David Hansen (MDiv/MA 1971) was installed as pastor at Brookings United Church of Christ in Brookings, SD, June 21, 2009. Hansen previously served as the Conference Minister of the UCC Hawaii Conference and as pastor of the Koloa Union Church.

1980s

Annyse Gross (CTS 1980) was commissioned by the National Center for Jewish Cultural Arts to write a screenplay, Anne Frank and Me, a docudrama aiming to make the Holocaust relevant to junior high and high school students by showing them the importance of individual responsibility. Annyse is currently consulting in her field of interfaith dialogue through the arts.

Beth Garnaas-Holmes (MDiv 1981) is beginning a new ministry at the Marlow United Methodist Church in Marlow, NH.

Roberta Rominger (MDiv 1982) was inducted as general secretary of the United Reformed Church in Edinburgh, Scotland in August. She is the first American and first woman to hold this position. Rominger is a member at Foothills UCC in Los Altos and has served as a missionary to the UK since 1985.

1990s

Roger Barkley (MDiv 1994), pastor of the Congregational Church of Northridge, CA, was interviewed about his ministry for the San Francisco Examiner on August 1.

Dorothy Steutker (MDiv 1995) was ordained in February 2008 at First Congregational Church of Berkeley, UCC in a four-way covenant with San Francisco Network Ministries (the calling body) on behalf of which she serves as the criminal justice outreach chaplain. She is also a staff attorney with the California Appellate Project.

Bishop Yvette Flunder
(MA 1997), presiding bishop of the Fellowship, a movement of churches and faith leaders built on God’s radically inclusive love, in May received clergy credentials in Metropolitan Community Churches in Washington, DC. The occasion marked the first time since 2005 that MCC has extended extraordinary credentials. Bishop Flunder is founder of City of Refuge United Church of Christ in San Francisco.

Noni Gordon (CMS 1999) has accepted a job as director of children, youth, and family programs for Skyline Church UCC in Oakland. Gordon is a third-year MDiv student at PSR and has served on the staff at City of Refuge church in San Francisco as a leader in the youth and young adult ministries.

2000s

Allison Addicott (MDiv 2003) had an article entitled “Morality-Free Zone Wall Street: The New American Dilemma” published on the blog of political advisor Brad Rourke, at blog.bradrourke.com. Addicott writes and speaks on improving communication between people and between cultures. She is currently on the ordination track in the United Church of Christ.

Michael Ellard (MDiv 2003) was elected as president of the Council of Churches of Santa Clara County in February 2009. Ellard also spoke on an interfaith panel at DeAnza College as part of a series addressing LGBT issues.

Carla Friedrich (MDiv 2005) and Felicity Wright (MDiv 2003) are heading to Nepal with a small group to visit and serve with two children’s homes in Kathmandu. Both will be keeping blogs during their trip: http://felicitywright.com/blog and http://miraterra.blogspot.com They will be filming and creating a business plan for a new home for children in Mexico that Friedrich plans to start as an outreach ministry of her church..

Amy Gingerich (MDiv 2005) was appointed editorial director at Herald Press, part of the Mennonite Publishing Network (MPN). Gingerich has worked as a reporter, section editor, copy editor, columnist, and page designer for the Tribune in South Bend, IN and the Reporter in Vacaville, CA.

Nicole Lamarche (MDiv/MA 2005) appeared on the “Larry King Live” television program in May to discuss the controversy over the comments against same-sex marriage made by Carrie Prejean, Miss California USA. A former Miss California herself, Lamarche offered her perspective on the issue of same-sex marriage. Lamarche also posted a statement supporting same-sex marriage which can be found on PSR’s Web site (search Lamarche).

Heather Hammer (MDiv 2006) began a new position in July as pastor at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rohnert Park, CA.

Mark Unbehagen (MA 2006) is working in the Bay Area as a music minister and teacher. He has spent the last few years composing praise and worship music with a progressive theology, “a bridge between traditional and contemporary music.” Four of his songs are included in the recently published UCC Sing: Prayer and Praise Book. His music is online at www.wepraiseyouoncemore.com.

Susan Bjork (MDiv 2007) was welcomed as associate minister at Bay Shore Community Congregational Church (Long Beach, CA) in April.

Justin Jeter (MDiv 2007) recently co-founded and launched University Drive, a company whose goal is to help simplify the college admission process for teens and their families. His Web site (www.universitydrive.com) includes videos, articles, and other resources.

Andrew Metcalfe (MDiv 2007) had the honor of preaching the interfaith Good Friday service at the historic Mission San Francisco de Solano. Metcalfe’s reflection on that honor was published in the Sonoma Index Tribune.

Barbara K. Martin (MDiv 2008) was ordained October 5, 2008 and is now serving as pastor of First Congregational UCC in Cannon Falls, MN.

Matthew Seeds (MDiv 2008) was installed as pastor of Zion United Church of Christ in York, PA. He was ordained last fall in his home church, Dubbs United Church of Christ in Allentown, PA.
